AIP Salmon & Ginger Broccoli Bowl
This AIP Salmon & Ginger Broccoli Bowl is a simple, anti-inflammatory lunch that comes together quickly and delivers powerful nutritional benefits for anyone following the Autoimmune Protocol.
It’s rich in omega-3 fatty acids, packed with fibre, and gently flavoured with fresh ginger and herbs — ingredients known for their immune-modulating and gut-supportive effects.
This recipe is ideal for busy days because you can cook it in under 20 minutes, and it supports two important foundations of autoimmune healing:
stable blood sugar and lower inflammation.
Why This Meal Is Perfect for Autoimmune Conditions
As an autoimmune nutritionist, I use meals like this regularly in client protocols because they target multiple healing pathways at once:
1. Omega-3 fatty acids from salmon
These help calm inflammatory signalling, support brain and nerve function, and play a crucial role in hormone and immune balance.
Most clients with autoimmune conditions benefit massively from increasing omega-3 intake — especially from whole-food sources like salmon.
2. Ginger and garlic
Both are AIP-compliant and deeply anti-inflammatory.
Ginger supports digestion, reduces nausea, improves motility, and helps regulate inflammatory markers.
Garlic provides antimicrobial and immune-supportive compounds that assist with gut diversity and resilience.
3. Broccoli and leafy greens
Sulphur-rich cruciferous vegetables support detoxification pathways, liver health, and hormone balance.
They also help feed beneficial bacteria in the gut.
4. Olive oil and herbs
Olive oil delivers polyphenols that reduce oxidative stress
while herbs like oregano or parsley provide antioxidants and flavour without using nightshades.
All together, this bowl supports digestion, immune function, energy, and inflammation — exactly what we want on AIP.
Functional Nutrition Insight
Meals that combine high-quality protein + healthy fats + fibre-rich vegetables have a stabilising effect on blood sugar — which is essential for anyone with autoimmune conditions.
Fluctuating blood sugar can trigger inflammation, worsen fatigue, affect thyroid function, and increase cravings.

For more filling meals, add roasted root vegetables or cauliflower rice on the side.

AIP Salmon & Ginger Broccoli Bowl
Ingredients
For the bowl
- 1 salmon fillet 120–150 g
- 1 cup broccoli florets
- ½ small sweet potato optional, cubed
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- Sea salt
Anti-inflammatory ginger dressing
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp grated fresh ginger
- ½ small garlic clove minced (optional)
- ¼ tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- Pinch of dried oregano
- Sea salt to taste
Optional toppings
- Fresh parsley
- Extra lemon juice
- Drizzle of olive oil
Instructions
- Cook the sweet potato: Steam or roast the cubes until soft (8–10 minutes if steaming).
- Cook the salmon: Season with sea salt. Pan-fry skin-side down in olive oil for 6–7 minutes, flip, cook 2–3 more minutes. OR bake at 200°C for 12 minutes.
- Steam the broccoli: Steam for 4–5 minutes until bright green but still firm.
- Make the dressing: In a small pan, gently warm olive oil, ginger, garlic, turmeric, oregano, and lemon juice for 1–2 minutes (do not fry hard). This releases flavour and keeps nutrients intact.
- Assemble: Place broccoli in a bowl, add sweet potato, flake salmon on top, and drizzle with warm ginger dressing. Finish with parsley or lemon.
Notes
- This bowl supports inflammation reduction thanks to:
- Omega-3-rich salmon → calms inflammatory pathways
- Ginger, turmeric, garlic, oregano → natural anti-inflammatory, antioxidant herbs
- Broccoli → rich in sulforaphane for detoxification
- Optional sweet potato → supports blood sugar stability and thyroid health
- Together, they create a satisfying, grounding meal that fuels energy, digestion, and immune balance.
- Swap salmon for mackerel or cod.
- Add cauliflower rice to increase volume.
- Use leftover roasted broccoli for even faster prep.
- Make extra ginger dressing — it keeps 3 days in the fridge.
