Why breakfast is the most important meal of the day?
First of all, breakfast is a must for all of us, and I would say it is the most important meal of the day. A healthy breakfast is very important for our health and weight management, but not having it at all is the worst option.
Probably the most appealing benefit is that breakfast jumpstarts your metabolism and, thus, helps you burn more calories throughout the day.
When you eat breakfast you’re telling your body that there are plenty of calories to be had for the day. When you skip breakfast the message your body gets is that it needs to conserve rather than burn any incoming calories.
Your body needs breakfast to help stabilise your energy / blood sugar. Even if you’re not diabetic, stabilising your blood sugar is a wise goal. Maintaining a steady blood sugar level can help you lose or manage weight and cut cravings that may lead to selecting unhealthy snack foods.
Breakfast also restores glucose levels, an essential carbohydrate that is needed for the brain to function. Many studies have shown how eating breakfast can improve memory and concentration levels and it can also make us happier as it can improve mood and lower stress levels.
Breakfast is Essential for Kids too
It’s important for kids to have breakfast every day, but what they eat in the morning is crucial too. Choosing breakfast foods that are rich in whole grains, fibre, and protein while low in added sugar may boost kids’ attention span, concentration, and memory — which they need to learn in school.
Eating breakfast helps to establish a normal eating pattern. Eating regular meals and snacks is a key to maintaining a healthy weight throughout life. Increasing childhood obesity is in part attributed to the disappearance of normal eating patterns in many of today’s households.
If kids aren’t hungry first thing in the morning, be sure to pack a breakfast that they can eat a little later on the bus or between classes. Fresh fruit, chia pudding, cereal, nuts, or half a peanut butter and banana sandwich are nutritious, easy to make, and easy for kids to take along.
You also may want to check out the breakfasts available at school or daycare. Some offer breakfasts and provide them for free or at reduced prices for families with limited incomes. If your kids eat breakfast outside the home, talk with them about how to make healthy selections.
Now we know that eating breakfast is really good for us as long as we make the healthy choices!
A lot of information, that I read, was that for a healthy body weight eating breakfast is really good. That is only true if the breakfast options are healthy and more for the nutrients rather than the carbohydrates and sugar.
