AIP Stewed Pear with Cinnamon
This AIP Stewed Pear with Cinnamon is the perfect gentle snack or light dessert for anyone following the Autoimmune Protocol. It’s naturally sweet, soothing on digestion, and rich in polyphenols that help calm inflammation.
Pears are one of the best fruits for people with autoimmune or gut issues — they’re soft, low-reactive, and packed with soluble fibre that supports healthy digestion and stable blood sugar.
Whether you enjoy it warm on a cold day or batch-prepare it for the week ahead, this simple recipe shows how therapeutic eating can still feel comforting and delicious.
Functional Nutrition Insight
Stewed fruit isn’t just a treat — it’s a therapeutic tool in the functional nutrition world. Here’s why this recipe works so well for clients dealing with autoimmune conditions, bloating, fatigue, or irregular digestion:
Why pears?
-
High in soluble fibre (pectin) which supports gut motility and helps soothe the intestinal lining.
-
Gentle on the stomach — ideal during flares or sensitive digestion.
-
Naturally sweet without blood sugar spikes when combined with cinnamon and healthy fats.
Why cinnamon?
Cinnamon is a natural anti-inflammatory spice that also helps:
-
Support blood sugar regulation
-
Reduce post-meal glucose spikes
-
Improve digestion
-
Add warm, comforting flavour without added sugar
Why this works for autoimmune health
Meals and snacks that combine fibre + warm fruit + anti-inflammatory spices can help calm the gut, improve nutrient absorption, and support hormone balance — especially when someone is in the AIP elimination phase or working on stabilising blood sugar.
This recipe is simple, gentle, and aligns with the foundational principles of inflammation reduction.

- Cinnamon improves insulin sensitivity and stabilises blood sugar.
- Ginger supports digestion, reduces nausea, and lowers inflammation.
- Warm foods support digestion for clients with low stomach acid, bloating, or Hashimoto’s-related gut symptoms.
- This is one of my go-to AIP snacks for clients who want something sweet but still supportive of healing.
